Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar

The much-loved Linenhall Film Club is set to return to Castlebar's Linenhall this autumn .

Bi-weekly evening screenings will showcase some of the best arthouse and independent cinema, from intriguing dramas to thought-provoking narratives, promising to captivate film enthusiasts.

It opens on Tuesday, September 10, with ‘La Chimera’, by acclaimed director Alice Rohrwacher, a film described as 'a fresh, engrossing adventure that’s simultaneously gritty and magical; sad and romantic; satisfying and unpredictable, follows a young archaeologist who falls in with a group of grave-robbers and embarks on a series of increasingly risky thefts'.

On Tuesday, September 24, ‘The Dead Don’t Hurt’ brings new perspective to the Western genre. Directed by Viggo Mortensen, this powerful drama tells the story of two outsiders, Danish immigrant Holger Olsen and French-Canadian Vivienne Le Coudy, who embark on a passionate relationship. Settling in a small frontier town, their newfound contentment is upended when Civil War breaks out and Olsen signs up, leaving Vivienne to fend for herself among the corrupt and violent town leaders.

The heartfelt French drama, ‘Ama Gloria’ is the next installment on Tuesday, October 8. Directed by Marie Amachoukeli centers around the deep bond between a young girl and her beloved nanny. When circumstances force them apart, the pain of separation and the power of love is tenderly captured, in a poignant reminder of the connections that shape our lives.

This will be followed by the moody thriller ‘Rose’ on October 22, ‘Kneecap’ on November 5, the suspenseful drama, ‘The Teachers’ Lounge’, on November 19‘The Crime is Mine’ on December, 3 with ‘The Taste of Things’ as the screening finale on December 17.

Individual film tickets are priced at €7. For those eager to enjoy the full season, a season ticket is available for €35, granting access to all eight screenings. Season tickets can be purchased by contacting the Linenhall box office team on 094 9023733.
