Sacred Heart Hospital, Castlebar
Rumours that the day services in the Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar will be reduced are not true and there are no plans to reduce the service according to the HSE.
Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne had asked the HSE for a response to rumours in the Castlebar area which suggested that the day care services in the Sacred Heart Hospital will be reduced.
At present the Day Care Centre at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar is open five days a week with many elderly people in the Castlebar area availing of the service during the day.
John Fitzmaurice, Chief Officer, Community Healthcare West told the HSE Regional Health Forum West meeting that there are no plans to reduce the service from the current service of five days per week.
“The service will continue to be five days and will operate between the hours of 9am and 4.30pm or 5pm on certain days. What might have prompted the rumour is one day we closed due to unforeseen sick leave and that might have resulted in a closure which was unexpected. Another day saw a planned closure where there was staff training.
“I assure you there is no intention to reduce the number of days. It is available to patients five days a week,” he said.
