Funeral details announced for Kiltimagh woman who passed away in house fire

Funeral details have been announced for a retired nurse who passed away following a fire in Kiltimagh.

Mary Beatrice McNicholas of Cordarragh, Kiltimagh, Mayo, late of Treenagleragh, passed away on Monday after a fire broke out at her home on Monday.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fire at a residential premises in Kiltimagh yesterday where Ms McNicholas was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Her brother, Oliver (Ollie), who lived in a separate section of the house he shared with his sister, was hospitalised at Mayo University Hospital as a result of smoke inhalation.

Ms McNicholas worked as a nurse in Dublin for many year before retiring to her native Kiltimagh.

One neighbour described her as ‘a gentle and kind lady’ by one neighbour who paid tribute following her passing.

She will be reposing in O’Hora’s Funeral Home, Kiltimagh, F12X942 on Monday evening, March 18, from 6-8pm followed by removal to the Church of the Holy Family, Kiltimagh to arrive at 8.15pm.

She will be buried Kilkinure Cemetery after Mass at 12pm on Tuesday, March 19. The Mass may be viewed online.

She is predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Mary Ellen McNicholas, brothers Colm and Joe, and sisters Bernadette and Teresa. Dearly beloved sister of Ollie, Sean, Ann, Margaret and Verona, her nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
