COUNTRY ROADS Annemarie O'Riordan is an 18-year-old from Cork with a great future in the entertainment business.
Bright year ahead for Cork’s teenage star
Michael Commins
THE year 2008 introduced a new young singer with a great future in the entertainment business. Annemarie O’Riordan is an 18-year-old from Cork who seems destined to become a major name on the circuit. Her forte is traditional ballads and she has voice and manner that looks set to charm the country. Her rendition of ‘This Story I Tell You Is True’ made her known to thousands of admirers throughout the western region. Other numbers like ‘Cooraclare’ and ‘Hard Times’ confirmed her ability to handle ballads in a way that has not been seen since the early years of Dolores Keane. Annemarie is currently studying at UCC after completing her Leaving Cert last June. She hopes to record a new album some time during the coming year. “I just love singing. The people up in the west have been very kind to me. I really am overwhelmed by their reaction. So many of them have phoned me and written to me and I’ve met a lot of people during my shows in Claremorris and Castlebar. If things go well for me, I’ll always know the people who gave me the big break,” says Annemarie.
