Maggie Gibbons shares some tips on getting your hair, face and body summer ready

Dare to bare this summer

Last week brought the first real taste of summer. It’s time to bare those arms and legs, but what if your skin is pasty, your legs need shaving and your feet are in serious need of a bit of TLC. Where to start?
Hair
If you’re going away on holidays, remember the sun bleaches hair, so better to wait until you get home before having your roots done. I always recommend using a good hydrating shampoo, and I’m a huge fan of organic shampoos and conditioners. Surya Brasil is a 100 percent vegan company that promotes vegan beauty. It is passionate about social responsibility and acclaimed for their natural hair colouring and hair treatments sold worldwide. Invest in a leave-in conditioner like Color Fixation Leave-In Conditioner, which hydrates and detangles. Available at www.yourtonic.com, health stores and pharmacies.
Pantene has introduced Pro-V dry oils for hair (€8.99). Choose either Smooth and Sleek with Argan oil for damaged hair, or Vitamin E Repair and Protect.
Face
If you feel a bit uncomfortable about baring the face when the sun first appears, then Vichy has come to the rescue with Capital Soleil BB Creams with 50+ (€16.50) protection – they’ll even out the complexion, as well as moisturise and give a beautiful tint.
If you’re going swimming and want to avoid the panda look, why not avoid the mascara mess and have your eyelashes dyed the week before you travel for hassle-free dips.
SkinCeuticals offers a wide variety of advanced professional skincare products to help improve skin health and fight against the major causes of skin ageing all year round. The SkinCeuticals skincare philosophy is prevention, correction and protection.
SkinCeuticals Serum-in-a-Gel Technology contains a serum-in-a-gel delivery system, which means the delivery is slower and more controlled than that of an aqueous serum. This makes it more suited to sensitive skin types. It’s not cheap, coming in at €180, but anyone who reviewed it found it impressive. I haven’t tried it myself yet, but but watch this space, I will let you know in due course.
Nails
Book your nails into rehab with Sally Hansen’s brand new range, Nail Rehab and Cuticle Rehab (€10.95). This at-home nail treatment helps strengthen weak, ravaged nails.
Body
Two gorgeous new scents have been added to the revolutionary Nivea In-Shower Body Moisturiser range (€3.99) – nourishing Cocoa Butter and pampering Honey. This great product means you can step out of the shower fresh and fully moisturised from top to toe. Just apply, rinse and go. Brilliant.
Imagine a product that gives you a natural-looking tan while deeply nourishing and hydrating your skin and that glides on without having to use a glove or mitt… Self-tanning oils are the future of self-tanners, as they don’t dry out the skin so your skin stays super soft. Taonorganic Self-Tanning Oil (€24.99) is just the job! Available from chemists nationwide and online at www.tanorganic.com.
