Oil-based products will stay on your skin longer than water-based ones, and so are great during the winter

Soothing facial oils for winter skin

Is your skin feeling very dry recently due to the gales and high winds that have battered us here in Co Mayo? If so, you will need something kinder and more helpful than your regular moisturiser. This is where facial oils come to the rescue.
While I know some of you will shriek in horror at the thought of applying oil to your face, it’s worth remembering that oils have developed to a great extent. Plant oils are now lighter, and most products now contain essential oils, the crème de la crème of plant oils. Even the tiniest amount will give a dewy look to the skin. As always I recommend though, do read the ingredients carefully to ensure you don’t suffer any allergic reactions.
Oils are an ancient skincare treatment, and even The Queen of Sheba allegedly had a specially planted Almond Plantation so she could have the oil extracted for her skin. Oil-based products will stay on your skin longer than water-based ones, which is why they are extremely beneficial during the winter. Argan, almond, grapeseed, Rose-oil and all come highly recommended.
A few favourites
Decléor Aromessence Neroli is one of the quickest and most direct beauty routine available, leaving the skin visibly smoother, softer and glowing with radiance. Morning and night, apply two drops of Aromessence™ over the entire face, pressing in with fingertips and finishing with light sweeping strokes. Follow with the appropriate skincare cream.
Roger & Gallet Bois d’Orange Huile Sublime is an orange-scented oil that smells absolutely delicious and can be used on your hair, face or body. It comes with a spray nozzle, which makes for easy, direct application.
Huile Sublime Bois d’Orange is enriched with a number of nourishing ingredients that help to moisturise, soften skin and protect its vigor. Argan Oil,  Almond Oil, Camelia Oil, Macadamia Oil, and Evening primrose are just some of the wonderful ingredients.
Without leaving an oily feel, your skin is left silky, luminous and sublimely beautiful.

Make your own
With recession still biting, you might think twice before you spend your euros on skincare, so why not do it yourself?
Un-perfumed based creams like aqueous cream, which can be purchased from your local chemist and are cheap as chips, can be blended with essential oils to make a DIY oil-based moisturiser. Just make sure that you mix the oil well into the cream or lotion and that you are not allergic to the essential oil of your choice.
The mixed cream or lotion should be kept in a cool area.
