Mick Lally will grace the stage of Aras Inis Gluaire when the comedy ‘God’s Official’ is staged next month.
‘God’s official’ to visit Belmullet
The legendary Mick Lally, the charming George McMahon (aka Mondo from ‘Fair City’) and rising star Edwin Mullane will take to the stage in Áras Inis Gluaire, Belmullet, next month in a madcap comedy called ‘God’s Official’. The drama, which is written by Robert Farquhar, will be presented by City Theatre Dublin, in association with Back of the Hand Productions. ‘God’s Official’ is about two football fans who have just seen their side relegated after a referee disqualified a perfectly good goal, allowing the opposition to go down the other end and score. The referee’s decision is final … or is it? The two resentful fans decide to take matters into their own hands by kidnapping the referee, to force him to change his mind about the all-important goal – with hilarious consequences. Ostensibly about football, this is a powerful play about passion and commitment – a welcome relief in these cynical times. ‘God’s Official’ won the Spirit of the Fringe Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The Guardian remarked of its author, Robert Farquhar: “You know a true comic playwright has arrived when the audience start laughing before the actors tell the jokes.” ‘God’s Official’ will be staged in Áras Inis Gluaire, Belmullet, on Tuesday, April 20, at 8pm. To book tickets, €15 each, call into Áras Inis Gluaire or call the box office at 097 81079.
