SINCE Regina Duffy is a big fan of SeΡn Keane, it was an obvious decision for the Tuam branch of the Regina’s Fight for Life campaign to track him down and ask him to sing his heartfelt songs for an upcoming fundraiser to be held in Claremorris on Easter Sunday night next, April 21.
Add the Mayo Concert Orchestra to the backdrop and the fundraiser by the Tuam group, who are friends of Regina’s husband, Jason Donoghue, a native of the Co Galway town and the charity concert is sure to be atmospheric and poignant with members of the Duffy family in attendance.
All proceeds will go directly towards the fund for Regina’s ongoing treatment for a rare form of brain cancer in the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Westport native Regina (38) was diagnosed with cancer for the third time late last year. and her only chance of a successful outcome was to seek treatment abroad in this specialist hospital.
Thanking SeΡn Keane and the Mayo Concert Orchestra, Jason Donoghue said: “Regina and her family are huge fans of SeΡn for years and they have seen him in concert numerous times; I know some of Regina’s family and close friends will be in attendance. This concert will go a long way towards helping Regina cover her medical costs and we are all very grateful.”
Speaking also organiser, Damian Dunleavy said: “We are delighted that SeΡn offered to do the gig and that the Mayo Concert Orchestra have come on board. We cannot thank them enough. Claremorris is the perfect location with Regina teaching in St Colman’s College [Claremorris] and a big crowd  is expected to travel from Westport and Tuam and all the places in between. We are overwhelmed with the support we received so far and we know this is going to be a sell-out so we really can’t express our gratitude to everyone enough.”
SeΡn Keane collaborated with the Mayo Orchestra for a tour last year, and the shows received rave reviews. Welcoming the invitation to provide accompaniment, Mayo Concert Orchestra Musical Director, Kathy Fahey, said that the orchestra members are very much looking forward to the night.
“SeΡn Keane is one of Ireland’s finest singers who comes from a big family of musicians. He is an amazing artist,” Ms Fahey said.

SeΡn Keane and the Mayo Orchestra’s concert in aid of Regina’s Fight for Life takes place on Easter Sunday, April 21, in the Claremorris Town Hall Theatre. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm. Tickets are €30 and are on sale from Corrib Oil outlets in Tuam, Claremorris, Castlebar and Westport.
