Man charged for graffitis in Westport over the summer.
A man has been arrested and charged for the incidents of criminal damage, including graffiti, that occurred in Westport on the nights of June 24 and 25, 2025, An Garda Síochána in Mayo has confirmed.
The incidents, which occurred at multiple locations around Westport town, prompted an investigation by local Gardaí after reports of graffiti and damage were made by residents and business owners. Westport, one of Mayo’s busiest towns during the summer tourism season, was affected by the vandalism over consecutive nights.
Superintendent Deirdre Gill has acknowledged the work of the Garda members involved in the investigation and expressed appreciation for the support received from the local community. She thanked those who came forward with information and assisted Gardaí during the course of the inquiry, noting that community cooperation played a key role in progressing the case.
As the matter is now before the courts, An Garda Síochána has stated that it will not be making any further comment.
The case will be heard at Castlebar District Court later this month.
