CREEPY CRAWLY INVENTIONS?Much-loved Galway-based street theatre company Macnas will perform ‘Cockroach and The Inventor’ twice during Féile Iorrais 2013.
Giant cockroach to infest Féile Iorrais
Féile Iorrais, now in its eighteenth year, kicks off on Friday, July 12, and runs until Saturday, July 20. This year has seen the organisers shore up another huge array of events to keep everyone entertained. The ten-day festival will be officially launched on Monday, July 1, at 7pm in The Talbot Hotel by a well known member of the Mayo Senior Football team.
Féile Iorrais 2013, which include art exhibitions, comedy, theatre, music, workshops and more, will this year include family street theatre by the inimitable Macnas, who will perform ‘Cockroach and The Inventor’ on Main St, Belmullet, twice on Saturday afternoon, July 12 (12 noon and 2pm).
A giant ‘Cockroach Inventor’ and his troupe of imagineers arrive into town, conjuring up a crazy invention filled with molecular muddles and bellowing sounds. Wild happenings occur that range from the caustic to the hilarious … Unpredictability fills the air along with smoke, silly contraptions, dustbin lids and a genius apparatus that will tickle, tease and literally capture the audience. Music, mayhem and buffoonery will abound.
Other artists featuring on the festival line-up include comedy act The Gombeens, writer ManchΡn Magan and bluegrass/Americana group Rackhouse Pilfer. There’ll even be a drive-in movie, with ‘Oh Brother Where Art Thou’ showing at Carne Golf Links, as well as a surf-themed night at the Anchor Nightclub.
All events take place in different venues throughout the Barony of Erris, including Ionad Deirbhile in Eachléim, McGuire’s in Pullathomas, Barrett’s and TrΡ Buí at Doohoma, Abhainn Mhór Lodge in Geesala, Bangor Play School at Glenamoy Hall and Ballycroy Visitor Centre.
Admission to many of the concerts and to all of the workshops is free. Bookings are required for the workshops. For details, call 097 81079, visit www.feileiorrais.org or email
