Ireland’s top filming locations in Ireland ranked, with Mayo making second place.

Achill Island came runner-up on the Betfair Casino top 12 real life filming locations across Ireland that viewers at home will definitely recognise from the edge of their seats - and have proven to be the most popular to visit.

Coming in ahead of the Dublin setting of Castlebar based author Sally Rooney’s hit ‘Normal People’, Achill Island is known as the backdrop for Colm Doherty’s house in ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’.

Famous for its tall sea cliffs and shoreline with a typically Irish breeze, locals and visitors alike can acknowledge the beautiful, natural surroundings of Achill.

Ireland is filled with an endless amount of beautiful spots to discover - and this could be why eagled-eyed film and TV producers have chosen to film some of the greatest masterpieces on the Emerald Isle to capture Ireland’s natural beauty on camera.

While the Burren took top spot for ‘Father Ted’, Sally Rooney’s novel-turned hit TV show ‘Normal People’ had two locations on the list, Sligo town and Trinity College Dublin made third and fourth place on the list.

The popularity of each location was measured by a unique index score based on the number of hashtags and views each location has racked up on Instagram, as well as Trip Advisor rankings.

More popular locations that also made the list were Enniscorthy in Wexford, which was used in Brooklyn, and making an appearance in The Count of Monte Cristo was Silver Strand Beach, in Wicklow.
