The successful author will release her new book later this year

‘Intermezzo’, the fourth novel from the international bestselling writer Sally Rooney, will be published later this year.

Following huge success from ‘Normal People’ and ‘Conversations with Friends’, both of which were adapted as television series for the BBC, Rooney’s new work was highly anticipated.

Sally Rooney’s millions of readers will recognise the beauty and insight, the pain and hope that radiates from this new novel.

The author who lives and works in County Mayo was named by TIME magazine among the 100 most influential people in global culture.

The new novel will hit the shelves on September 24, being published by Faber.

‘Intermezzo’ follows brothers Peter and Ivan Koubek who seem to have little in common.

In the wake of their father’s death, Peter (30) starts medicating himself to sleep and struggling to manage his relationships with two very different women – his enduring first love Sylvia, and Naomi, a college student for whom life is one long joke.

Ivan (22) is a competitive chess player who has always seen himself as socially awkward. Now, in the early weeks of his bereavement, Ivan meets Margaret, an older woman emerging from her own turbulent past, and their lives become rapidly and intensely intertwined.

For two grieving brothers and the people they love, this is a new interlude – a period of desire, despair and possibility – a chance to find out how much one life might hold inside itself without breaking. Alex Bowler said: ‘Intermezzo is a story of brothers and lovers, of familial and romantic intimacies, of relationships that don’t quite fit the conventional structures.

Faber will publish in hardback (£20.00), export trade paperback (£14.99), e-book and audio.
