Connacht LGFA PPS Senior A Final

Sacred Heart School 4-8

Convent of Mercy 2-11

Sacred Heart School, Westport have secured their third Connacht Senior A title in a row by beating Convent of Mercy, Roscommon in a thriller at the Connacht Centre of Excellence.

The teams were level with ten minutes remaining, making for a grandstand finish, and three goals in three minutes created late drama.

The match was end-to-end football from first whistle to last. Westport centre forward, Aoife Meaney, led the charge for her team, scoring 1-1, and setting up multiple scores for her teammates.

Straight from the throw-in, both teams displayed performances full of energy and passion. The Roscommon side threatened the Westport goal multiple times, but the Sacred Heart defence stood strong and went in at half-time leading 2-5 to 1-6.

However, the Convent of Mercy did not let their heads drop. The 2023 All-Ireland ‘B’ Champions came storming out of the blocks in the second half, and with excellent work from the likes of Siofra Hession, they managed to level the score.

With eight minutes remaining on the clock, the teams were still level. Westport midfielder, Sarah Mulroy, rattled the back of the net, and it seemed they may have just done enough. However, it was only 50 seconds later when the Roscommon team raised a green flag of their own, in dramatic fashion.

There was extreme excitement around the Dome, and the Westport fans went wild when former Mayo U-16 player, Christina MacEvilly, won the game for Westport in the 55th minute, scoring a superb goal, which would see Sacred Heart School, Westport, through to another All-Ireland Semi-Final.
