A NEW bus service to Galway hospitals will operate from Achill on a weekly basis from the beginning of April serving communities from Achill to Castlebar. The new Rural Transport Programme service to the Galway hospitals will begin on a weekly basis from Thursday, April 8 and will serve the people of Achill, Ballycroy, Mulranny, Newport and Castlebar. The new service was developed with the help of Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiuil Acla and its CEO, Terence Dever said they were delighted to be able to deliver the service to the community. “The funding for this route has been hard fought for and has come about as a result of co-operation between the HSE, ÚdarΡs na Gaeltachta, Mayo Rural Transport Programme administered by Mayo North East and Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Acla,” he said. Pat Kilbane, Chairman of CFÁA stated that ‘he was thrilled to be associated with this most important and long over due service for the people of Achill and beyond’. He complimented the involvement and particularly noted Anne Lavelle, Community Welfare Officer with the HSE and Terence Dever (pictured) of CFÁA for his persistence in following this through to fruition. More information with regards to the specifics of the route, times and charges will follow in the local press closer to the time.
