A motorcyclist involved in a collision with a garda car on the Leenane Road, on the outskirts of Westport on Friday afternoon, is being treated at Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar. Superintendent Michael Murray confirmed to The Mayo News that the incident has been reported to the Garda Ombudsman, as is normal procedure when a Garda vehicle is involved in a collision. He has also appealed for witnesses to come forward. The accident happened shortly after lunchtime on Friday. The road remains closed, with diversions in place. The injuries suffered by the motorcyclist do not appear to be life threatening.
