Carrowholly National School marked a significant and joyful milestone on Thursday, December 11, when the school community gathered to celebrate the school’s eightieth anniversary alongside the turning on of the Christmas lights. The festive evening brought together pupils, parents, grandparents, past pupils, staff and members of the wider community in a warm and celebratory atmosphere.
One of the most memorable moments of the evening came when the Christmas lights were switched on by the school’s oldest past pupil together with its current youngest pupil, a touching gesture that beautifully represented the rich history and ongoing future of Carrowholly National School.
The celebration was further enhanced by the pupils’ wonderful carol singing, which filled the air with Christmas spirit and was warmly received by all in attendance. A display of historical photographs allowed visitors to reflect on eight decades of memories and milestones, prompting lively conversation and fond reminiscing. Festive treats and refreshments were enjoyed by all, adding to the sense of community and celebration.
Fr Britus blessed the school crib during the evening, providing a meaningful moment of reflection at the heart of the Christmas celebrations. The weather remained favourable throughout the event, allowing everyone to enjoy the outdoor festivities in comfort. For many of the younger attendees, the highlight of the evening was a special visit from Santa Claus, whose arrival
brought great excitement and smiles to children and adults alike.
The evening was widely regarded as a great success, with funds raised in aid of St Vincent de Paul. Sincere thanks are extended to all those who worked so hard to organise the event and to everyone who attended, making the celebration a truly memorable occasion for the entire Carrowholly school community.
