BALLINA-born journalist, John Vincent ‘Danno’ Halloran has passed away in Galway after a short illness. His long career, which started at The Western People, led him to Independent Newspapers and ultimately to the national broadcaster RTÉ. Over the years he worked as a news and duty editor and was a founding editor of the station’s Oireachtas TV broadcasting unit.
The late Danno Halloran was a talented footballer who played on the Mayo junior GAA team that lost the All-Ireland in 1951.
He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Halloran, the Mid-West Correspondent for RTÉ, and his three other children John, Kevin and Lisa, as well as grandchildren, his brother David, sisters Sr Marie Celine and Bernie and close friend, Clare. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Carmel.
Mr Halloran’s funeral Mass took place in the Church of the King, Salthill on Friday last with burial in Bohernabreena Cemetery in south Dublin on Saturday. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
