A PLANNING decision for a 46 bedroom motel in Claremorris has been put back to October 22 next.
A decision on the planning permission of the motel, conference rooms, a motor service area and rest area was due yesterday (Monday).
However, according to Mayo County Council’s planning list, a decision will now not be available on the €11 million project until October.
The site on the Kilcolman Road is set to consist of parking for trucks and coaches, car parking, service station, showers and offices among other facilities.
Access to the development will be off a new road connected with a new junction to the Kilcolman Road.
“It will be bigger than Obama Plaza,” Independent councillor Richard Finn told The Mayo News.
Cllr Finn said he has been supporting the project for the past year and a half and that he hopes ‘all obstacles can be overcome’.
“It would be a huge benefit to Claremorris if this went ahead. It’s a substantial investment for Claremorris and would be a big stop off point off the N17,” said Finn.
