Town Hall community room named in tribute to SeΡn Staunton
Neill O'Neill
THE new community room on the first floor of the Town Hall Theatre in Westport is to be named in honour of the late SeΡn Staunton, who passed away last November. A former editor of The Mayo News and Westport Town Councillor for almost four decades, SeΡn Staunton was completely immersed in the life of his local community and his selfless involvement in many organisations has been recalled time and time again in recent months.
A decade in the making, the new Town Hall Theatre will be officially opened later this month, and with him having served from the outset on the committee which devised and oversaw the multi-million euro upgrade of the dilapidated and condemned Westport Town Hall on The Octagon, into a state-of-the-art theatre, it has been decided that it will be a fitting tribute to call the large community room on the first floor after SeΡn, a move that no doubt would have humbled him greatly.
