Talented Ballinrobe band ‘Quality Street’ are hot on a campaign trail in the hope that they will succeed in beating off competition to play at this year’s Westport Festival. The quartet, all from the Ballinrobe area, are currently battling it out in the Redbull Bedroom Jam 2013.
The competition requires bands across the country to record and upload a video of an original song. Every week the successful band which reaches the top of the ‘buzz chart’ will get the chance for their bedroom to be transformed into a venue and perform to the world via the web.
The band is made up of Ailíse Burke on the piano and vocals, Martin Farragher on guitar and vocals, Mike Ansbro on vocals and bass guitar and Gerry Heneghan on drums.
Speaking to The Mayo News about the competition, Psychology graduate Ailíse Burke said even winning the first round of the competition would ‘mean the world to us’.
“The band was only meant to do a once-off gig in Ballinrobe last summer but we stuck at it and started writing just before Christmas. To be currently getting so much support from everybody is great and even being fourth in the chart is huge for us,” explained the gifted vocalist.
Recording their original song ‘You Can’t Hide’ in Abhaile Studios recently, the band uploaded the video last Sunday, entering the chart at number seven and are currently at an impressive number four and climbing.
In order to get to the top of the chart this week the band’s video must create as much internet activity as possible, being liked and shared on Facebook, retweeting the link on Twitter and rating the band on redbullbedroomjam.ie.
Following on from the bedroom jam the successful bands who received a live show enter the Festival Chart where the public decides who progresses to the festival tour and live final where they could play local Westport festival, Indiependence and Glasgowbury.
A live final will then be held in Whelan’s in Dublin where the ultimate winner will receive one week of living and recording at the famous Grouse Lodge, €1,000 worth of equipment, a support spot on an Irish tour and PR support for the release of their debut/new single.
