MAYO GAA officials are expected to speak to club representatives involved in last Friday night’s Mayo U-21 ‘A’ FC Final, as well as the match referee, following unsightly scenes at the end of the game in Castlebar. The match finished level after extra-time, with referee, Eamon McAndrew, awarding a late free to Castlebar Mitchels which left them deadlocked with Ballintubber after eighty minutes. According to eye-witnesses, McAndrew was heckled and verbally abused by a number of individuals as he was being escorted off the field by a steward. The referee is also understood to have made a gesture in response. The Mayo News understands that Board officials are awaiting the referee’s match report before deciding on their next course of action. They are also due to speak to club officials. The replay between Ballintubber and Castlebar is likely to take place on Saturday week next, November 24, with Ballinrobe a likely venue.
