Worldwide audience watches 2011 Election Count on MAYO TV
Cambodia, Egypt, Moldova and Canada were just a sample of the far flung countries with Mayo natives that responded in their droves to MAYO TV’s live election coverage on www.mayotv.ie over the weekend. “We’re all in shock with the response to MAYO TV,” commented the station founder and director Piaras Ó Raghallaigh this week. The MAYO TV website has received over 400,000 hits in just one week with viewers logging on at home in Mayo and all over the world to see what is happening in their native county. “We really didn’t expect such a response from Mayo people everywhere. We have huge number logging on here at home in the county and while the numbers are growing all the time in the USA and the UK, it is just mind-boggling to think that we have people logging onto www.mayotv.ie in far flung places like Cambodia and Moldova,” commented Ó Raghallaigh. MAYO TV is all about connecting Mayo people at home and abroad and bolstering Mayo businesses everywhere. “It is an exciting time for Mayo people everywhere and there is no doubt about it, people that left the county and county over the years are very eager to see what is happening at home” Ó Raghallaigh stated. Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny stated live on MAYO TV over the weekend that the Mayo Diaspora would be looked after if he becomes Taoiseach. “I will be bringing back all the Irish ambassadors from every country and outlining my views and supports for Irish people that are leaving now in their droves and of course all those that were forced to leave this country over the years,” he said. Newly elected TD’s Michael Ring, Michelle Mulherin, John O’Mahony and Dara Calleary also outlined similar views live on MAYO TV as they spoke with passion and pride after getting elected to the 31st Dail. “MAYO TV will be a life line to Mayo people everywhere and I think it is a fabulous concept,” commented Michael Ring. Labour candidate Jerry Cowley confirmed he watched the election count unfold live on MAYO TV before he arrived at the Castlebar Count Centre at the Royal Theatre and Event Centre. “I was watching MAYO TV at home on my computer and realised from very early on that I was in trouble,” he said. Targeting a worldwide audience, MAYO TV will feature weekly news and sports updates as well as features on entertainment, Mayo businesses, farming matters in Mayo and community events from across the county. “We will be covering everything from football to farming and from fishing to fashion on MAYO TV. We want to showcase Mayo to the world as a wonderful place to live in, to do business in and to visit as a holiday destination. MAYOTV will give a voice and TV presence to every aspect of life in Mayo,” Ó Raghallaigh said.
