AN ACHILL man out walking may have slipped into water and drowned according to the Achill Island Coast Guard. The body of a man was retrieved from a cove in the Dooagh area on Sunday morning after a report of a body in the water at 11.50am. The man has been named locally as John Joe Kilcoyne from Dooagh. He had not been reported missing. Strong currents and the hard to access area made the recovery difficult for the Coast Guard but they were able to recover the body shortly after the alarm was raised. The man’s body was removed to Mayo General Hospital after being recovered by four Coast Guards who all had to enter the water to recover the body. The Coast Guard D Class boat was launched off Purteen Harbour. Sincere sympathy was expressed by the Achill Coast Guard to the family members affected.
