The incident took place on Sunday, August 22 at 7.30am when two men entered the Evo service station on the Galway road in Claremorris. One of the men was armed with a knife but they left without taking anything. Two men were subsequently arrested by Claremorris garda and charged in connection with the attempted robbery. They are due to appear before Ballina District Court tomorrow, August 25.
Attempted robbery in Balla
GARDAÍ are seeking the assistance of the public in investigating the attempted robbery of the Costcutter shop in Balla on Saturday evening. The incident occurred when a male in his early twenties entered the shop at 9.45pm on Saturday August 21 and threatened a member of staff. He demanded money from the member of staff but left when he realised there was no cash left. The staff member was not hurt during the incident. Garda in Castlebar who are investigating the attempted robbery are looking for anyone who was near Costcutters on Saturday night between 9pm and 10pm, and who may have seen anything suspicious to contact Balla or Castlebar Garda stations. A Garda spokesperson said that the public should contact the gardaí even if they do not think it is suspicious.
