This weekend will see Mayo hurlers begin their Nicky Rackard Cup championship campaign with a trip away to Armagh on Saturday. The game throws in at 1.30pm in the Athletic Grounds and they will be hoping to put down a firm marker as they bid to return again to Croke Park.

There was heartbreak for Mayo in the 2025 Nicky Rackard Final played in Croke Park on May 31 when they lost out by a single point to Roscommon (3-16 to 1-21). After leading by two points going into added time with Roscommon picking off three late scores to lift the cup. Mayo also accumulated 20 wides during the game to add further to the dismay of losing out so narrowly.

Ray Larkin will have his panel fully focused for the trip to Armagh this weekend as a good start here will set them up nicely for the rest of the campaign that will see them play Tyrone, Sligo, Louth and Fermanagh. Ray will be joined by fellow Galway men, Nigel Shaughnessy and Padraig Mannion, for the championship season with a speedy return to Croke Park their prime mission.

It is understood that Mayo has a strong panel with few injury concerns ahead of the journey to Armagh and hopes are high that they will clear the first hurdle on Saturday.
