MAYO SHC FINAL
Tooreen 2-17 Ballyhaunis 0-21
This thriller and rollercoaster of a decider between the county’s two small-ball powerhouses came down to the final seconds.
The hosts in the race for the crown were leading until the dying echelons, and looked on the cusp of
seeing the trophy donned in black and red ribbons, but fate conspired to leave them empty handed.
Time stood still at the Knock Road end as Donegal native Joe Boyle got on the end of Shane Boland’s
attempt for an equaliser that dropped short.
Many in the ground were convinced that the net-shaker was a square ball, but the three-pointer stood, sparking ecstasy and agony in equal measure.
There was no shortage of twists and turns in the tie. Tooreen led by four at the interval, but a bustling
Ballyhaunis third quarter paved the way for a spectacular finish.
