What a year it has been for the Delaney cousins from Tooreen.
David, Fionn, and Matthew, all born in 2007, have annexed an amazing array of medals in 2025.
They won Mayo senior medals when Tooreen edged Ballyhaunis in a dramatic encounter, got their hands on the junior crown with a win over Moytura, captured the U-20 title when beating Castlebar, and went home with the U-18 medals on Saturday when Tooreen defeated Westport in the minor final.
The icing on a very sweet cake was the capture of the Connacht Intermediate title when Tooreen defeated Meelick-Eyrecourt at Hyde Park, Roscommon.
“This is a tremendous achievement by the lads to win so much in one year,” says Adrian Hession from Tooreen who has been synonymous with the promotion of hurling in Mayo for many years.
“Fionn and David both came on in the Connacht Final against Meelick-Eyrecourt in Roscommon and they stepped up to the plate in a special way. They love hurling and are now looking forward to the All-Ireland semi-final against the Tyrone and Ulster champions in Cavan on Sunday week.”
The club would also like to wish Con Delaney a speedy recovery from injury. It kept him out of the minor team that won Saturday's county final.
