Mayo LGFA legend Diane O'Hora has revealed that she intends to throw her hat into the ring for the senior manager's job.
The role has been vacant since July 5, when former boss Liam McHale stepped down after his side secured their senior status for 2026 with a win over Leitrim in Tubbercurry.
On Friday, August 18, Mayo LGFA announced that they would be seeking applications for the role, setting a deadline of this Friday, August 1.
Now, days before that window slams shut, the former attacking star and All-Ireland winning captain has told The Mayo News she wants the job.
"I'll be applying for it, yeah. I see absolutely no reason why Mayo cannot be challenging at the very top of the game. The talent is there.
"Our club championship is very good and very strong in Mayo, and I think that the amount of talented players that are out there is exceptional."
O'Hora is not one who lacks experience on either side of the line, whether it be during her time playing for Mayo where she pocketed three Celtic crosses as well as two All-Stars, to the rapid rise of Kildare football under her tutelage.
For whoever gets the role, aiming to get a grip of the situation where some of the finest talents in the county are not lining out in their county colours is something which needs to be addressed.
"There's obviously a lot of people who seem to have stepped away for different reasons that I'm not sure of, "but it just really just goes to show the level of talent that's in the county in general.
"There's absolutely no reason why, with the talent that's there, and with a strong backroom team, that Mayo can't be back challenging at the top again."
