Mayo Fine Gael TDs Michael Ring and Alan Dillon pictured together recently with Fine Gael candidates in Westport for the upcoming local elections, Cllr Peter Flynn and Keira Keogh.
Michael Ring, TD, has extended warm congratulations to Deputy Alan Dillon on his appointment as Minister of State at the Department of Housing with responsibility for Planning and Local Government.
Deputy Michael Ring stated: “I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate Alan on his appointment as Minister of State. This is a wonderful day for Alan, his family and his staff. I have no doubt that Alan will strive to do his best in this role and bring a new dimension to the Department. I wish Alan every success in his new appointment.”
Earlier today, Deputy Ring, in an interview with Mid West Radio, said he himself had been offered two junior ministerial portfolios by the new Taoiseach, Simon Harris, but had turned both of them down as he didn't feel there would be sufficient time to deliver for the people of Mayo in the role.
Deputy Ring also said that the new Taoiseach was looking for assurances from the new junior ministers that they were definitely running in the next General Election, and he has, as of yet, not fully committed to seeking re-election for Fine Gael in the Mayo constituency.
“If I became a junior minister now I don’t think I could deliver anything in nine months. I have given it a lot of thought. At this stage of my life it wasn’t for me.
“The ministries offered to me were not ministries where I would be able to deliver for the people of Mayo,” said Deputy Ring in the interview.
He added that he will definitely make up his mind about his political future over the next few weeks.
Another Mayo TD, Fianna Fail Minister of State Dara Calleary, has also welcomed the appointment of Deputy Dillon as a Minister of State.
“I want to express my congratulations to Alan and his family on his appointment at Minister of State with responsibility for Local Government and Planning. It is a great honour for Alan, his family and supporters and for the Mayo constituency. I wish him every success in his new role and look forward to working with him on behalf of the people of Mayo,” he said.
