Modular accommodation has arrived at St Brid’s School, Castlebar.

The arrival of the two new state of the art modular accommodation units heralds the start of a new era for the Castlebar educational facility.

Mayo TD Alan Dillon visited the campus at St Brid’s Special School in Castlebar on Friday to view the new units.

Mr Dillon has said he is ‘delighted’ that the first two of five classrooms are ‘now operational at St Brid’s’.

“It is expected that three more modular units will be coming on stream at the campus by the start of the 24/25 school year,” he said.

The Fine Gael TD called this the ‘start of a new era’ for the school.

“Once the five modular classrooms are in place in September, work can then progress on the demolition of the existing school building and the construction of the new special school building which will include eight classrooms” he added.

Deputy Dillon said the progress and future plans for the school are a ‘credit’ to school principal Tom Jones, staff, the school’s Board of Management and parents. He said the advancements will ‘guarantee the ongoing fulfilment of students’ exceptional educational requirements for years to come’.

He concluded: “I look forward to seeing further developments over the coming months at the Pavillion Road site and will continue to work with the school and board to ensure the work progresses apace.”
