New EV charging hub opens in Mayo along N17

ESB installs high-power charging facility capable of serving four electric vehicles simultaneously
Electric vehicle drivers travelling through Mayo have received a boost with the opening of a new EV charging hub in Ballindine.
The new facility, developed by ESB, is located at the Texaco Service Station on the N17 and forms part of ongoing efforts to expand charging infrastructure along one of the West of Ireland’s busiest routes.
The charging hub features two 100kW high-power chargers, allowing up to four electric vehicles to charge at the same time. The site is also equipped with contactless payment technology, providing a convenient charging experience for motorists.
The N17 serves as a key transport corridor linking Galway, Mayo, Sligo and the wider North-West region, making Ballindine an important stopping point for both local and long-distance travellers.
Welcoming the launch, Sinéad Kilkelly, Executive Director of People and Sustainability at ESB, said the investment would help strengthen rural charging infrastructure while supporting the growing number of EV users.
“The N17 is a vital transport corridor [...] and Ballindine’s position along this busy route makes it a key stopping point for drivers,” she said.
“By investing in EV charging infrastructure at strategic locations like this, we’re supporting a growing rural network that complements essential local amenities while making longer EV journeys more reliable, convenient, and accessible.”
ESB remains Ireland’s largest EV charge point operator and continues to expand its national network as demand for electric vehicle infrastructure grows.
The new charging hub is expected to improve charging availability for motorists travelling between major urban centres while also supporting the transition to electric vehicles in rural communities across Mayo and the West of Ireland.
