A Mayo man will start his 5,500-kilometer barefoot journey across the length of Europe in aid of Pieta House tomorrow.

Starting tomorrow, Eamonn Keaveney will take on the mammoth task of walking barefoot from Istanbul to Claremorris, a journey that traverses ten countries and surpasses the current record for the longest barefoot journey by over 2,000 km.

Just in case the distance needs context, the distance from Malin to Mizen Head is 546 km.

This will not be Eamonn’s first endeavour of this nature. In 2023, he set the record for the fastest time to cross Ireland by unicycle, and in 2018, he climbed Ireland’s ten highest peaks in ten days barefoot.

To make the journey even more difficult, Eamonn will be carrying all his gear on his back and camping along the way.

Eamonn is completing this challenge in aid of Jigsaw, having so far raised over €40,000 for charities since the start of his challenges.

Those wishing to donate to his efforts can do so here.
