Mayo County Council has granted planning permission for the development of a residential care facility for people with disabilities in Castlebar.
The development by Communicare Healthcare will involve the demolition of an existing house at Garryduff Park in Castlebar and replace it with a 'state of the art facility' designed to cater for the people in the community with disabilities.
Communicare Healthcare is a Mayo based care company providing care for people with disabilities and independent living for the community.
The new development designed by Castlebar-based Masterson Design Ltd will consist of six ensuite bedrooms as well as a staff bedroom and common living areas in a new two storey 555.6 square metre building.
The building will replace the vacant property which consists of a dwelling house, first floor living accommodation and extensive workshops, stores and garage which are all to be demolished.

There was one submission received in relation to the application where one nearby resident expressed concern that this was a commercial development in a residential area and it will cause further erosion of the residential profile. There were also concerns raised that the new development will have an impact on traffic and parking in the area.
Planning permission for the development was granted by Mayo County Council subject to nine planning conditions.
