Hugely popular Mayo Bar and Restaurant announces its closure

Cox's Bar and Restaurant was located on Tucker Street in Castlebar.

One of Castlebar’s most popular pubs has announced the news that it will be closing. Cox’s Bar and Restaurant located on Tucker Street, Castlebar, one of few late bars in Mayo has made the announcement to cease trading.

The Bar/Restaurant was a lively spot in the County Town and after 25 years of business, a decision was made to close the business.

In a statement posted on their Facebook page, the announcement was made. It reads:

It is with considerable sadness that we announce the closure of Cox's Bars & Restaurant, Castlebar.

This decision was not taken lightly. Despite our best efforts, the prolonged difficulties of the current trading environment have made it no longer possible to sustain the business. It is a conclusion we reached only after exhausting all alternatives, and we are deeply grateful for the loyalty and goodwill that has been shown to us throughout.

To all our customers, what began as a place to eat and drink became, over the years, so much more.  In our 25 years here, we have had some amazing experiences and we have met great people.  Memories were created that will endure long beyond these walls. For all of that, we thank each and every one of you who shared this journey with us.

We extend our sincere thanks to our loyal suppliers, whose commitment and professionalism helped us in our business and keep our standards high. Your support over the years, and your understanding now, is very much appreciated.

Finally, and with the deepest appreciation, we thank our staff. The extraordinary people who made Cox's what it was, day in and day out. From those who took their first steps in hospitality here and returned years later, to those who gave us a decade or more, to those who joined briefly and came back time and again, you gave this place its spirit. We are immeasurably richer for knowing you, and many of you have become friends for life.

To everyone who was ever a part of Cox's as a customer, a supplier, or a member of our team we thank you sincerely.

Paul & Helen Doyle (Proprietors of Cox's Bar and Restaurant).
