Planning permission has been granted for glamping pods along the Great Western Greenway near Newport
PLANNING permission has been granted for three pods to be located on the grounds of a farm located along the Great Western Greenway near Newport.
Mayo County Council granted planning permission to Maureen O'Neill for the construction of three glamping pods as well as the retention of the existing Greenway Lane art studio-cafe located along the Great Western Greenway at Derrycooldrim, Carrowsallagh, Newport.
The Greenway Lane art studio-cafe is a popular attraction for visitors along the Greenway from Newport to Mulranny and serves as both a working art studio and a gourmet cafe, combining art and culinary experiences in a picturesque setting.
The development was designed by Masterson Design Ltd, Castlebar and the application stated that Ms O'Neill will manage the pods as part of her existing cafe business and her existing active farm.
The application was supported by Anna Connor, the Tourism Development Officer with Mayo County Council who said it is intended to create a direct link from the Greenway to the Greenway Lane art studio.
“On behalf of Mayo County Council, I would like to offer my support to Maureen in her endeavours to further develop and expand her business. If the project proposals are progressed it will provide a greater product offering and a valuable visitor experience to potential visitors exploring the Burrishoole Loop Walks, Wild Nephin National Park, Great Western Greenway and the Wild Atlantic Way,” she wrote in support of the application.
Planning permission was granted on January 10 subject to ten planning conditions.
