This will be the show of the year in Erris with a brilliant line-up of country, Irish and Scottish music to delight patrons from around the region and further afield.

THE Broadhaven Bay Hotel in lovely Belmullet is all set to host a full-house for the 'Westering Home' concert on Friday night, August 21. This will be the show of the year in Erris with a brilliant line-up of country, Irish and Scottish music to delight patrons from around the region and further afield.

The title of the show comes from the classic Scottish song, 'Westering Home', which has gone around the world. It also has an Irish equivalent in Trasna na dTonnta (Across the Waves) and will be performed on the night by Moyra Fraser from Scotland, along with a fine selection of Scottish favourites.

Mick Foster of Foster and Allen is also on the bill while Hugh Duncan from BBC Radio Ulster will be making his first appearance in Erris for many years. “I am so much looking forward to going back to Belmullet,” says Hugo. “I played many great dance nights several years ago, and I still recall the warmth of the people and how they came out to see us in such numbers. It was a special part of Mayo travelling that long road from Ballina to Belmullet and it is great to be heading back there again. Belmullet here I come!”

Matt Keane, from the legendary Keane family from Caherlistrane, also has a great bond with Erris. “I have always enjoyed playing shows in the Erris area and have very happy memories of nights spent in Trá Buí in Doohoma with Breda and the Holmes family as well as other parts of that region.

This will be a special night in August along with so many other fine entertainers,” says Matt.

The show will also feature Mick Mulhern, PJ Murrihy (Clare), Thomas McBride (son of Big Tom), Sarah Lyons (Balla) as well as Clodagh Togher, Sean Fahy, The Duets, Michael John Ruddy (all from the Erris region), and Sylvie and Deirdre Golden (Ballina). The Ryan Turner Band from Donegal will be joined by one of Ireland’s most acclaimed country fiddle players, Charlie Arkins, from Meath, ensuring that this will truly be a magical night of music and song in Belmullet. The show will be followed by music in the bar with local group, Kay and The Country Stars.

Tickets for the show are €35 and can be had from the hotel reception 097 20600, Carr’s Daybreak, Ballina, or can also be booked by calling Ger Commins on 087 6484334.
