Mayo boxer wins big at World Championships in Montenegro
Castlebar star is just one fight from a medal at the World Championships
There was great Mayo excitement at the Meditearnean Sports Centre in Budva, Montenegro this afternoon when Castlebar's Grace Bailey produced a brilliant display at the World U-19 Boxing Championships. The young Mayo woman has now advanced to the medal stages where she will box India's Harsika Harsika in the 65kg quarter-final on Saturday. Victory there will guarantee her a place in the semi-final and at least a bronze medal.
Today, Bailey was in against Serbia's Dunja Vuksic and the Castlebar boxer took control from the opening bell. She dominated the first round and continued to excel when the bout resumed for the second.
Bailey's dominance led to the contest being stopped in the second round and now all eyes turn towards Saturday and her fight for a medal.
