County title winning manager steps down from role

The Westport native led the side to the club’s first ever senior title in 2024
Westport LGFA have confirmed that their management team have departed after a successful spell in charge of the West Mayo side. In recent years, Geraghty’s side have been a real powerhouse in Mayo football as they claimed victory in the Senior championship in 2024 and 2025. 2024 saw the Clew Bay women claim their first ever senior title. This year, Burrishoole overcame Westport in a surprising outcome.
Westport LGFA confirmed on social media that their manager Pop Geraghty and his backroom team would be departing.
“As Pop Geraghty and his backroom team step down from their roles, we want to take this opportunity to recognise and celebrate the incredible contribution they have made to Westport LGFA over the years.
Alongside Pop, the dedicated backroom team of Pádraig Walsh, Martin Dunne, Brian Regan, Michael Regan, Sinead Kennedy, Mary McDonnell and Mark Ryan have each played an important part in shaping our senior ladies team and our club as a whole. Their collective commitment, dedication and passion have helped build something truly special, leaving a lasting legacy that will benefit Westport LGFA for many years to come.
Together, they guided our senior ladies to that elusive first senior title — a historic achievement that will forever hold a special place in our club's history! However, their contribution extends far beyond silverware. Through their leadership, encouragement and belief in our players, they have helped nurture young talent, develop future players and create a pathway for the next generation to progress into senior football.
Their willingness to lead by example, support our younger teams when needed and share their knowledge and experience has inspired girls not only within Westport LGFA but across the county. The countless hours, hard work, sacrifices and dedication they have given to our players and our club have helped establish strong foundations for the future.
The memories created, the standards set and the players developed along the way will continue to inspire Westport LGFA long after this chapter comes to a close. We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of their families for the support, patience and understanding they have shown throughout their time with the club. We recognise that the commitment involved goes beyond the sideline, and we sincerely thank them for the time and sacrifices they have shared in supporting our management team over the years.
While we are sad to see this chapter come to an end, we do so with immense gratitude and pride for everything this group has achieved and contributed. They leave behind a legacy of achievement, development and progress that we can all be proud of.”
