Mayo kingpins and Four Roads set to renew rivalry again

The Mayo champions will face Roscommon kingpins Four Roads in Dr Hyde Park on Saturday at 1.30
Tooreen and Four Roads will once again meet in the Connacht Intermediate hurling quarter final in Hyde Park, Roscommon, on Saturday at 1.30pm. This will be the fifth year in a row that they have clashed at this stage of the series with Tooreen claiming victory on each occasion.
The Mayo and Connacht champions had a comprehensive win over Ballyhaunis (2-29 to 0-20) in the Mayo decider three weeks ago. Unlike their down to the wire clashes with Ballyhaunis in 2024 and 2025, there was no mistaking the quality and style of Tooreen on this occasion as they marched to a comfortable win over their neighbours and great rivals.
Shane Morley is the new man at the helm for Tooreen after taking over the reins from Ray Larkin who stepped down as manager some months ago after a brilliant few years in charge. Shane is joined by Stephen Leneghan, Gary Nolan and Austin Kenny and they have to be immensely pleased with how things have gone so far.
Tooreen delivered a magnificent display against Ballyhaunis on a day when young David Delaney turned in a hugely impressive performance. Fergal Boland, a dual player with Mayo football and hurling teams, is captain this season and he was outstanding in the county final.
Four Roads put in a strong challenge last year before Tooreen eventually emerged winners on a scoreline of 1-17 to 1-12. It took a late point from Óisin Finneran, three minutes into injury time, for Four Roads to break the hearts of a gallant St Dominic’s (Knockcroghery) and retain the title on a scoreline of 1-14 to 2-10. Conor Morris was their top scorer with 0-7 with David Mannion securing their only goals and other scores from Liam Óg Coyle 0-2, Adam Donnelly, Jack Donnelly, Trevor Fallon, Brian Mannion and Oisín Finneran (0-1) each.
Four Roads have formidable players in Conor Mulry, Conor Morris, Tommy Morris, James Cunniffe, Noel Fallon, Liam Óg Coyle and Jack Donnelly.
This Tooreen team have a special fondness for the wide expanses of Hyde Park and will relish the prospects of another clash with the Roscommon champions. They will be hoping to maintain the quality they brought to the county final in Castlebar and deliver again in style on Saturday. The winners will play Brothers Pearse of London in Hyde Park two weeks later.
