Mayo GAA club management steps down after historic final run

The Mayo News can reveal that the Garrymore GAA senior football team management has collectively stepped down after guiding the club to their first senior championship final in 44 years.
It was one the big stories during the Mayo GAA senior football championship this year. Garrymore beat reigning three-in-a-row campions Ballina Stephenites on their home turf in the first round, and went on to beat Balla and Castlebar Mitchels to top the group.
Garrymore had the best defence in the championship, no other team conceded less points per game. This strength paved the way for them to beat a Crossmolina Deel Rovers team brimming with talent in the quarter-final.
In the semi-final, Garrymore ground out a win against Belmullet after extra-time. The club from South Mayo made a name for themselves as a well-structured team with a great fighting spirit, that keeps a cool head in tricky situations.
Their efforts were boosted by the return of the club’s two All-Ireland winners, Enda Hession and Eoin McGreal. These two helped raised the standards across the team.
Then, in the final, they came up against a formidable foe and lost to Castlebar Mitchels.
Now, the Garrymore GAA senior football team, managed by joint managers Fintan Forde and Tony Corcoran, with backroom and support personnel including Myles Fallon have decided to step down after one year in charge.
This is just another management position to fill among many at the moment in Mayo. For example, yesterday, Sunday, the Breaffy and Ballina Stephenites management called it a day on their respective stints at the helm.
Knockmore are in the hunt for a new boss while Crossmolina are also looking for a new manager after Intermediate All-Ireland winning manager Brian Benson stepped down a few weeks ago.
