The former Derry star and RTÉ pundit was due to manage the team as they aimed to make it back to the county final.

The Mayo News has learned that Joe Brolly has parted ways with the Knockmore Ladies’ Football side, with the championship just around the corner.

The former Derry inter-county footballer and well-known pundit was manager of the North Mayo club for the 2026 campaign.

Brolly was appointed to the helm in February as the team geared up for the county league in a season where they aim to dethrone Westport from their perch as the leading team in Mayo.

A positive league campaign saw them book their spot in the decider. However, they were ultimately beaten in the final by the reigning queens.

Now, they will have to secure a new person to lead the side just ten days out from their competition opener against Claremorris on Sunday, August 16.

Brolly has previous with Knockmore, having formed part of the men’s backroom team under Ray Dempsey in 2025. Last year, the men’s side made it to the championship semi-final, where they lost to Ballina Stephenites.
