Mayo GAA star receives Player of the Month for All-Ireland heroics

The attacking star lit up Croke Park as the team put Kerry to the sword and bring Sam Maguire home
Mayo attacking star Ryan O’Donoghue has seen his totemic display in the All-Ireland final rewarded with selection for the GAA/GPA Footballer of the Month.
O’Donoghue was electrifying in every way in Croke Park as Andy Moran’s men put Kerry to the sword to get their hands on Sam Maguire for the first time in 75 years.
The Belmullet man was deadly on the scoreboard, but that was only one part of a simply breathtaking performance.
He led from the front, tackling and pressing with ferocity unlike anything seen before, playing a starring role in ending the famine.
Gearóid Hegarty of Limerick, Kerry’s Síofra O’Shea, and Ciara Hickey (Galway) received accolades for their performances in hurling, ladies football, and camogie respectively.
“July is when our championships are at their peak, and the pressure on players to perform is at its greatest. Ryan O’Donoghue, Gearóid Hegarty, Síofra O’Shea and Ciara Hickey all rose to that challenge,” GPA CEO and former Mayo footballer Tom Parsons stated.
“Their performances at the very pinnacle of the inter-county season helped light up our games and brought huge excitement and enjoyment to supporters across Ireland.
“What makes these awards even more special is that they are voted on by fellow players, which reflects the respect each of these players have earned through their performances, commitment and professionalism.”
