Best Gastro Pub in Mayo expands its food offering as the summer season gets underway

One of Westport’s best-known hospitality venues is expanding its food offering for the summer, with JJ O’Malley’s now serving lunch daily from 12pm in the heart of the town.

The Bridge Street establishment, recently crowned Best Gastro Pub in Mayo at the Irish Restaurant Awards, officially launched its new lunch service on Tuesday, June 2, providing locals and visitors with a fresh daytime dining option as the tourism season begins.

Known for its welcoming atmosphere, live music, quality food and popular upstairs dining space, JJ O’Malley’s is placing a renewed focus on lunchtime dining with a menu centred on local ingredients, lighter dishes and daily specials.

Among the dishes featured on the menu are Westport Seafood Chowder, Prawn Pil-Pil, JJ’s Crispy Fried Chicken Burger and Local Mescan Beer Battered Cod and Chips, with seasonal specials also planned throughout the summer months.

Owner Tom Bourke said the move reflects growing demand for quality daytime dining in one of Ireland’s most popular tourist destinations.

“Summer in Westport brings a great buzz to the town, with locals, day-trippers and visitors all looking for somewhere with good food, a warm atmosphere and a real sense of welcome,” he said.

“We’ve put a strong focus on quality ingredients, good service and creating a place people want to spend time in, and lunch feels like a natural next step for us as we head into the summer season.”

Located on Bridge Street, the venue combines a traditional Irish pub atmosphere with a restaurant and private dining facilities, offering both casual dining and lively entertainment in one of Mayo’s busiest tourism hubs.

With visitor numbers expected to increase throughout the summer months, the new lunch service is expected to add another attraction to Westport’s thriving food and hospitality scene.

“Opening from 12pm now gives people another reason to call into JJ’s, whether that’s for a light lunch, a catch-up in town or something more relaxed in the middle of the day,” Tom Bourke said.
