Westport Marathon brought over 4,000 people to the shadow of Croagh Patrick in 2025

Mayo County Council have announced a series of road closures to facilitate the upcoming Westport Marathon.

On Saturday, April 18, thousands will converge on the shores of Clew Bay for the 26.2-mile race.

Last year, over 4,000 participated in what was a memorable occasion for locals and runners alike.

Now, the Council have revealed their plans to accommodate the event.

From 7 am to 3 pm, Roman Island, by Westport Quay, will see restrictions. The access road to Roman Island (L-5842-6), as well as the access road (L-5842-7) from its junction with the Towers (L-1801) to its Junction with the Roman Island Road (L-5842), will be open to local traffic only.

From 8 am to 3 pm, the coast road (L-1801) from its junction with the Ardmore Road (L-2803) to its junction with the West Road (R-335).

Again, the route will be open to local traffic only, with diversions available via the Ardmore Road (L-2803), Cloneen (L-5841), Streamstown (L-5840), Quay Road (L-1801), and the N-59.

Lastly, it will be a case of local access only on the Ardmore Road (L-2803-1) from its junction with the Cloghan Road (L-58411) to the junction with the Coast Road (L-1801). The L-58411 Cloghan road and the L-5841 Cloneen road are available as diversion routes.
