West Mayo town records highest rainfall levels last month
Despite a historically dry and warm month, a Mayo town topped the rainfall charts.
A Mayo town recorded the highest monthly rainfall in the country last month, according to the latest Met Éireann Climate Statement.
Newport topped the national charts with 75.2 mm of rain, while nearby Belmullet claimed the highest daily total at 17.8 mm.
Despite these stats, July 2026 was historically warm and dry on a national level. It ranked as the second hottest July since 1900, and driest July on record, with many stations seeing records broken.
Seven stations triggered official heatwaves lasting between 5 and thirteen days.
