West Mayo Men’s Shed secures funding to promote Gaeilge
The funding will be used over the autumn and winter months to introduce practical, engaging language elements directly into the Shed’s weekly routine.
Castlebar Men’s Shed, the largest in Co Mayo, is celebrating after being awarded a significant funding grant from the cross-border Irish language body, Foras na Gaeilge.
The group was successfully approved for funding under the 'Glacaigí Páirt' (Take Part) scheme. The funding allocation provides up to €2,000 to help the local shed embed the use of the Irish language into their everyday pastime activities, projects, and social gatherings.
Responding to the fantastic news, Mick Keane, Cathaoirleach of the Castlebar Men's Shed, expressed his delight. “Tá muid thar a bheith sásta, we are absolutely over the moon to receive this support from Foras na Gaeilge”, he commented.
“Our shed is all about community, connection, and shoulder-to-shoulder companionship. To be able to weave a bit of Gaeilge into our daily chats, Ramblin House, and cupán tae over the coming months is a brilliant opportunity. It's a great chance for the lads to brush up their cúpla focal in a relaxed, fun environment.”
The funding will be used over the autumn and winter months to introduce practical, engaging language elements directly into the Shed’s weekly routine. The committee and members of the shed wish to extend their sincere míle buíochas to Foras na Gaeilge for backing their application and helping them keep the language alive in the heart of Mayo.
The Shed, which is located at The Workshop, ATU, Old Westport Road, Castlebar, (at the rear of the old St. Mary’s Hospital) is open five days a week, 10am to 4pm. New members are always welcome. Contact 085-1525367.
