WDC invites Mayo community groups to connect on diaspora engagement

The workshop will bring together people involved in diaspora engagement to share experiences, discuss challenges and explore opportunities for greater collaboration
The Western Development Commission (WDC), the State agency responsible for promoting economic and social development across the West and Northwest, is inviting community groups, individuals and organisations across the West and Northwest to take part in a networking workshop exploring how to strengthen connections with the region’s diaspora.
The event, Connecting with our Diaspora, will take place at the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris, Co. Mayo, on Tuesday, November 10, from 10am to 2pm while a buffet lunch is included.
The workshop will bring together people involved in diaspora engagement to share experiences, discuss challenges and explore opportunities for greater collaboration.
It will include an overview of findings and recommendations from the WDC’s recent Diaspora Engagement Research Report, followed by discussions on how a regional diaspora network could support existing initiatives and identify practical priorities for future collaboration.
Allan Mulrooney, CEO of the Western Development Commission, said: “Our research into diaspora engagement highlighted the value of greater collaboration and the demand for opportunities for those working with the diaspora to connect, share experiences and learn from one another.
“This workshop is a direct response to that feedback, bringing people together to discuss what is working, identify common challenges and explore how a regional network could support and strengthen diaspora engagement across the West and Northwest.”
Community groups, organisations and individuals with an interest in diaspora engagement are encouraged to attend. The workshop offers an opportunity to make new connections, share learning and help shape how organisations across the region can work together to strengthen relationships with the diaspora.
