Kilbride development will provide supported accommodation for people with disabilities

A new community dwelling at Kilbride in Swinford has been officially opened by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne TD.

The purpose-built home was developed through a partnership between Mayo County Council, Sophia Housing and the HSE, and will provide modern accommodation for individuals moving from a congregated setting to community-based living.

The development is designed to support greater independence, inclusion and quality of life, providing residents with a home where they can live independently while receiving the support they require.

Minister Browne said the scheme reflected the Government’s commitment to providing housing solutions for people with a wide range of needs.

“My priority is to provide housing solutions for people with a wide range of needs and I am delighted to get to Swinford for this great occasion,” he said. “This scheme will provide assisted living accommodation for people with disabilities, enabling residents to live independently with dignity while receiving the support they need.”

The official opening was also attended by Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr John Caulfield, who described the development as “a wonderful occasion” for the residents and the wider Kilbride community.

He said the project demonstrated what could be achieved through organisations working together with a shared commitment to inclusion, dignity and opportunity.

Mayo County Council Chief Executive Kevin Kelly said the project was an example of successful partnership working and highlighted the Council’s commitment to providing housing solutions that respond to the needs of communities across the county.

“Through collaboration, we have delivered a high-quality home that will support residents to live independently within their community while enjoying the security and comfort of modern accommodation,” Mr Kelly said.

The development was delivered by Kellman Development Ltd, with Mayo County Council acknowledging the contribution of the Department of Housing, Sophia Housing, the HSE, elected representatives, housing officials and all involved in bringing the project to completion.
