Belleek Woods trail improvement works continue in North Mayo

More than €200,000 is being invested in trail upgrades with reopening expected within the next three months
Improvement works are continuing at Belleek Woods in Ballina, with trails expected to reopen within the next three months or in early 2027.
The update was provided by Cllr Marie-Thérèse Duffy, who confirmed that more than €200,000 is being invested in improvements to the woodland trails under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS).
The project is being delivered in partnership with Mayo County Council and the Belleek Woods Enhancement Committee.
Works are being carried out in phases, requiring the temporary closure of certain sections of the woodland trails while upgrades take place.
However, the main riverside Greenway section remains open and accessible to the public throughout the works.
The improvement programme is expected to continue over the coming months, with completion anticipated by the end of this year or early 2027, subject to weather conditions.
The investment is aimed at improving the trail network and enhancing the visitor experience at one of Ballina’s best-known recreational amenities.
Cllr Duffy said the works represented an important investment in Belleek Woods and welcomed the progress being made on the project.
