Funeral arrangements announced for Mayo farmer who died in quad accident

The Funeral arrangements have been announced for a east Mayo farmer who died in a farming accident on his farm in Kilkelly on Wednesday.

Jimmy Forkin of Carrabeg, Kilkelly who was aged in his 60s died on his farm after a quad on which he was riding overturned on Wednesday. The emergency services rushed to the scene but he was pronounced dead and removed to Mayo University Hospital.

The death of Mr Forkin who was married and a full-time farmer was met with shock in the Kilkelly community where he was a well respected member of the community.

Local councillor John Caulfield said that the village has been left numb with the news of Jimmy's sudden death.

“I knew Jimmy very well and he was a very well respected member of the farming community. It is so so sad and the village has been left stunned after it.

“He has been farming there all his life and is very well respected in the farming community. Jimmy and Chris were a lovely couple and very well respected in the community.

“It is very sad and we can't believe it. Jimmy was such a strong hard working man and it is hard to believe he was taken down so suddenly. The village is just numb,” he said

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Chris and he will be reposing at the Marian Funeral Home in Knock on Saturday evening, August 9 from 6pm until 8pm with removal to St Patrick's Church, Glann. His Funeral Mass will take place on Sunday at 2pm followed by burial afterwards in Culmore cemetery.
